So, as I said in my "about me" I am learning bass and guitar. I'm not very good but I have fun messing around and that's all that matters. Susie and our neighbour and any unsuspecting innocent folks who happen to stroll by when the basement window is open may disagree. I find the lessons from justinguitar.com extremely helpful and really recommend that site to anyone just starting out on their own like myself. I also use Rocksmith on my PS3. It's a great tool. To be clear, it isn't like Rock Band or Guitar Hero. You don't play a plastic instrument with 5 buttons. You plug a real guitar or bass in with a special cord and play along to actual tunes. It has a great mix of music - everything from Bob Dylan and CCR to Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam (2 of my favourite bands) to System of a Down and Megadeth. Every Tuesday new downloadable content is released so I have more songs to destroy.
This Tuesday the folks at Ubisoft, who created this game, knocked it out of the park. It isn't what I would normally listen to and the fromage factor is off the charts but it's an absolute riot to play. Hall and Oates, Doobie Brothers, Michael McDonald, Toto, and the cheesiest of all - the Pina Colada song! My guitar is out of commission (until I get it down to a guitar store) because I think I messed up trying to restring it, and the strings are touching the frets, but I have spent the evening playing these songs on bass. They are easy enough for someone like me to enjoy playing, and I actually almost have them "mastered" (in the game's terms) already.
Do you like pina coladas? Or getting caught in the rain? Do you have this stuck in your head now? If you do, all I can say is mwa ha ha ha ha ha *disappears in a puff of smoke*
