We just moved our office, within the same building but up a couple of floors and over to the other side of the building. I used to have a lovely view of a back alley. This is what I see now. Wish I could be out there. It's a beautiful morning and there are fresh Farmer's Market cinnamon buns to be had.
So, as I said in my "about me" I am learning bass and guitar. I'm not very good but I have fun messing around and that's all that matters. Susie and our neighbour and any unsuspecting innocent folks who happen to stroll by when the basement window is open may disagree. I find the lessons from justinguitar.com extremely helpful and really recommend that site to anyone just starting out on their own like myself. I also use Rocksmith on my PS3. It's a great tool. To be clear, it isn't like Rock Band or Guitar Hero. You don't play a plastic instrument with 5 buttons. You plug a real guitar or bass in with a special cord and play along to actual tunes. It has a great mix of music - everything from Bob Dylan and CCR to Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam (2 of my favourite bands) to System of a Down and Megadeth. Every Tuesday new downloadable content is released so I have more songs to destroy.
This Tuesday the folks at Ubisoft, who created this game, knocked it out of the park. It isn't what I would normally listen to and the fromage factor is off the charts but it's an absolute riot to play. Hall and Oates, Doobie Brothers, Michael McDonald, Toto, and the cheesiest of all - the Pina Colada song! My guitar is out of commission (until I get it down to a guitar store) because I think I messed up trying to restring it, and the strings are touching the frets, but I have spent the evening playing these songs on bass. They are easy enough for someone like me to enjoy playing, and I actually almost have them "mastered" (in the game's terms) already. Do you like pina coladas? Or getting caught in the rain? Do you have this stuck in your head now? If you do, all I can say is mwa ha ha ha ha ha *disappears in a puff of smoke* Well this isn't the first time I've tried the whole blog thing. Every now and again I start them, usually in a fit of insomnia or boredom, but don't follow through for long. I"m somewhat active on Twitter, but sometimes that 140 character limit just isn't enough. I'm creating this blog for just those times.
I'm a huge Saskatchewan Roughrider fan, so expect many posts of pictures, rants, raves, and hopefully some gloating as the season unfolds. I also like traveling, especially to the mountains in Banff, Montana, and Idaho, and to New England, and enjoy good beer and food (though I'm by no means a pretentious "foodie"), so I will likely also post about our travels and any interesting pubs or restaurants that we try. I'm not very tech savvy so it's going to take me some time to figure out how this all works and to make it look decent, but my wife has a great looking blog using this platform, so I'm sure I can bug her to share her secrets and tips. |
